Antique 1900s METAL PRISON / POLICE WHISTLE 

Inscribed E .MILNS & Co LONDON
Original Chain and Photograph included.
This whistle belong to Mr James Williams ( purchased from his great grandaughter)
The photograph was taken at his home, a large semi-detached house just outside the Prison walls.
Mr. Williams worked as a warden at the Prison in Vernon Street Derby and was later
caretaker when it closed. He was born in 1869 and joined the prison service in approximately 
1899. 
It was the County Jail from 1843 to 1919 and then a Military Prison 1919 to 1929.
